He was among NASA's largest crew to date for the first dedicated Spacelab mission directed by the German Aerospace Research Establishment (DFVLR). Two years later, on October 30, 1985, Bluford made his second trip to space as a specialist for mission STS 61-A aboard Challenger. The mission ended on September 5, 1983, when the spacecraft touched down at Edwards Air Force Base in California in a night landing, another first for Challenger. Over the course of 98 Earth orbits in 145 hours, Bluford and the crew operated a Canadian-built robot arm and conducted several biophysiological experiments. Bluford was a specialist for mission STS-8 aboard the space shuttle Challenger, which took off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for its first night launch. He officially became a NASA astronaut in August 1979.īluford made history on August 30, 1983, when he became the first African American to experience space travel. Of some 10,000 applicants to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) space program, Bluford was one of 35 chosen to join the new space shuttle team in January 1978. During this time, he also became a staff development engineer and branch chief of the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. He won several medals for his service, including the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.Īfter the war, Bluford enrolled at the Air Force Institute of Technology, where he received both a master's degree and a PhD in aerospace engineering. Air Force ROTC program and graduated in 1964 with a degree in aerospace engineering.įollowing his pilot training at Williams Air Force Base in Arizona, Bluford flew 144 combat missions during the Vietnam War. He enrolled at Pennsylvania State University as a member of the U.S. The son of a mechanical engineer and a special education teacher, Bluford grew up in a household where academic success was encouraged. was born on November 22, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Bluford completed three more NASA missions, compiling 688 hours in space by the time of his retirement in 1993. In 1983, he became the first African American to travel into space when he served as a mission specialist aboard the space shuttle Challenger. Bluford was a decorated Air Force pilot in Vietnam before joining NASA in the late 1970s. Sipping it revealed honeydew melon, ripe peaches, mango, grapefruit, and lightly dank, resinous pine. The nose is surprisingly light with some yeasty bread, orange peel, mango, lime, and pine. Part 1: New England-Style IPA Blind Tasting Taste #1 Christopher Osburn Keep scrolling to see if your favorite beer made the list and where it landed. I used the blind taste test to rank them. So I grabbed ten of the highest-rated and most well-known New England-style IPAs on the market and decided to blindly nose and taste them. The highest-rated, still juicy, but well-balanced New England-style IPAs. Not simply juice bombs with no substance. But if I’m going to drink hazy IPAs, I’m going to drink the best of the best. Why is it so popular? Well, it’s a great beer for warm-weather drinking. Now it seems like every brewery from Montpelier to Montecito brews its own version of this hazy, juicy, citrus, and tropical fruit-filled beer. But while beer fans flocked to the small New England brewery to get this now iconic beer, the style didn’t really gain national exposure for another decade. The New England-style IPA was first invented in 2004 when famed brewer John Kimmich brewed Heady Topper at Vermont’s The Alchemist. While the classic IPA is floral, piney, and known for its bitter (almost aggressively so) hop finish, the New England-style is known for its juicy, tropical fruit flavors with a ton of aromatic hops but little to no bitterness. If you’re new to beer, you might not know that there is a ridiculously large, almost Grand Canyon-sized, difference between a classic West Coast IPA and the more recent phenomenon, the New England-style IPA. Also be careful when cleaning the roof, to avoid damaging it…Īlso repair the roof before applying any primer and installing the coating. You shouldn't apply the coating on dirty and greasy surfaces, or on rusted metal areas. Clean the roof using a presser washer or other effective cleaning process. Pay attention to the manufacturer’s instructions, especially those involving their application. The term ‘cool roof’ encompasses an extensive array of roof types, colors, textures, paints, coatings, and slope applications. These roofs have a higher solar reflectance than a typical roof surface. When buying roof coatings, prefer Energy Star products, and make sure that the coating is compatible with your roofing. The term, ‘cool roof’ refers to the outer layer or exterior surface of the roof which acts as the key reflective surface. Some new studies are questioning the performance of reflective membranes, at least in colder climates they may not provide the expected energy savings.įor a critical view on reflective roofing, see: White roofs, green myth? Purchase and installation If you are interested in this issue, take a look at the ARMA Bulletin 227 PDF, with the title " Field Coating of Installed Asphalt Shingles", in the Publication section of Arma Technical Bulletins. Most asphalt shingle manufacturers do not recommend their application and studies on this subject do not confirm such claims. Some manufacturers claim that their roof coatings are effective over asphalt shingles, but that's a very controversial issue. If you are considering applying a reflective coating, make sure that it is compatible with your roofing. They can also protect the roofing, extending its life and lowering maintenance expenses. That's important in hot climates, or even in mixed climates. Used in conjunction with 1) shade, 2) attic and roof ventilation and 3) attic insulation they can reduce solar heat gains through to roof to a minimum. Reflective coatings can be a cost-effective way of reducing solar gains through the roof. They are easy to apply (typically with a paint roller) to existing roofing materials, and relatively inexpensive ($20 to $30 per gallon, for good quality products). Reflective coatings - namely acrylic elastomeric coatings, with high reflectivity - can be a cost-effective way of reducing solar heat gains through the roof in warm and mixed climates.
And it snaps with a satisfying thud on the back. Magnets built into the back of the iPhone match up with magnets on the battery pack itself. This Battery Pack quickly snaps to the back of the iPhone 12 Mini, 12, 12 Pro or 12 Pro Max. The MagSafe Battery Pack is centered around power and design, the latter of which takes unique advantage of Apple’s MagSafe technology. Our Tech and Electronics Editor breaks it all down: by CNN Underscored on Friday, July 23, 2021 We’ve spent the last few days with Apple’s MagSafe Battery Pack and there’s a lot to this simple iPhone accessory. The MagSafe Battery Pack is firmly an extender that won’t fully recharge an iPhone but offers convenience and a few neat tricks for $99. No other portable battery offers deep integration with iOS, though. Often, they’re larger and produce a bit more heat when in use. Third-party solutions - like Anker’s or Hyper’s magnetic power banks - still easily attach to the back but don’t offer the software integration and slim designs. Traditional battery packs might be larger and a whole separate device, but they offer more mAhs and ports, which let you charge more devices. How this compares: Apple’s MagSafe Battery Pack is neither the thinnest nor the fastest portable charging solution. However, it’s not the longest-lasting or fastest charger out there. Moreover, it integrates with iOS in a way that other batteries or options can’t. What you need to know: This accessory gives iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max users a simple and engaging way to extend battery life. It’s ideal if you don’t want to be bothered by carrying a separate portable charger. Who this is for: The MagSafe Battery Pack is a purpose-built accessory that takes advantage of the iPhone 12 design and aims to stretch the battery life a bit more. Too much discounting can often be viewed as "cheapening" a consumer goods brand especially when that brand is considered premium, luxury, upscale, etc.Your CNN account Log in to your CNN account But I think butterfly keyboards and the like certainly 'damage' the brand, absolutely. and Ive never thought that would cheapen their brand. that can hit customer loyalty more than cheapening the brand. Although the device is fine, when a consumer buys a device at full price and the update is available the next day. I think a decent thing they could do is temporally lower a devices price when an update is imminent. I don't think certain discounts 'cheapen' a brand. Gift cards and/or limited time trade-in bonuses is the approach Apple typically takes for "shopping events" like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Apple also routinely lowers retail prices of previous generation models which could be considered a discount but, again, traditional sales and discounts are still rare. For example, the original iPhone was discounted $200 less than three months after launch. they give away vouchers and have student pricing. For everything else, we're keeping track of all of the season's best Apple-related deals in our Black Friday roundup, so be sure to check back throughout the month for an updated list of all the most notable discounts you'll find for Black Friday 2023.Īpple have never discounted products in store. You can find all the Apple Black Friday Deals currently available in our dedicated post. There's also the MagSafe FineWoven Wallet with Find My support for $47.99, down from $59.00. You can find every case listed below by model, and many are seeing multiple colors hitting record low prices. Lastly, Amazon has quite a few discounts on Apple's official MagSafe cases for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro. It enables programmers to create complex systems by breaking them down into smaller, more manageable components. How Abstraction WorksĪbstraction lets programmers create useful and reusable tools. OOP concepts in Java work by letting programmers create components that are reusable in different ways while maintaining security. That’s when the values of the supplied variables imply different meanings. That’s when the code itself implies different meanings. One form of polymorphism is method overloading. Allows programmers to use the same word in Java to mean different things in different contexts. Using Inheritance lets us build on previous work without reinventing the wheel. A special feature of Object-Oriented Programming in Java, Inheritance lets programmers create new classes that share some of the attributes of existing classes. We can then reuse objects like code components or variables without allowing open access to the data system-wide. Encapsulation is a protective barrier that keeps the data and code safe within the class itself. The practice of keeping fields within a class private, then providing access to those fields via public methods. This is important because it lets you avoid repeating the same work multiple times. In Java, abstraction means simple things like objects, classes and variables represent more complex underlying code and data. We all know how to turn the TV on, but we don’t need to know how it works in order to enjoy it. Using simple things to represent complexity. Grasping OOP concepts is key to understanding how Java works. Basically, Java OOP concepts let us create working methods and variables, then re-use all or part of them without compromising security. The main ideas behind Java’s Object-Oriented Programming, OOP concepts include abstraction, encapsulation, inheritance and polymorphism. OOP provides several key concepts that enable developers to write modular, reusable, and maintainable code. In OOP, data is encapsulated within objects, and objects are defined by their properties (attributes) and behaviors (methods). Object Oriented Programming (OOP) is a programming paradigm that focuses on the use of objects to represent and manipulate data. What is Object Oriented Programming (OOP)? Let’s take a look at some of the foundational Java programming language concepts with a primer on OOP concepts in Java. At Netreo, we aim to help developers become better. Java is one of many programming languages and technologies supported by Netreo’s leading tools, Retrace and Prefix. Let’s explore the four main OOP concepts in Java and discuss how each works. OOP is one of the most fundamental programming concepts. Review date: 1/18/16, written by Christopher Smith of There are certainly a few radio-friendly cuts that either have or will receive radio attention, such as "You Are Loved" and "We Are Giants," but overall this album tries too hard to produce a sound pulled off much better by other artists, even their own label mates for King & Country. Unfortunately, as a whole, the music feels overdone with its grand production perhaps "Doxology" is best suited for a simpler approach as evidenced by My Epic on Broken Voices.Īt its worst, this self-titled album is background filler and at its best, it is catchy formulaic pop. In fact, in "Doxology," Cleavland adds two more verses and a chorus to the famous words written by English cleric Thomas Ken, and it fits surprisingly well with the 342-year-old hymn. The opening track, "Doxology," the aforementioned "Walking Like Giants" and closing ballad "Here" are notable exceptions. These are all fundamental aspects of the Christian faith, but the lyrics SGD utilizes to convey these messages are not as significant or comprehensive as they should be, largely because of the album's focus on production and surface-level encouragement. The themes of the album revolve around finding our identity in Christ ("Alive In You" "You Are Loved"), worshiping Him with our lips ("Doxology," "Here") and living life sold out for Him ("24-7"). Sometimes these comparisons are general, like how "If It's Amazing Grace" sounds like a slower Chris Tomlin styled song, and other times it can be found in smaller details, like how Cleavland's vocals sound similar to Phil Whickham on "Love That Won't Let Go." Songs like "Stars" and "Never Burn Out" are as generic and unimaginative as their titles suggest, and often makes you think of other Christian pop artists. The best demonstration of this personality is "Walking Like Giants," in which a bubbly marching beat leads us in and out of a ridiculously catchy chorus that declares: " we're not giving up / when struggles come they're not big enough / there's no stopping us, we're fearless inside / we're walking like giants." This song finds SGD in their most confident state, but unfortunately the majority of the record confines itself to calculated anthemic pop. The first few listens through are underwhelming, doing little to capture your attention, however, more time with the album reveals traces of character. It attempts to follow the formula that has proven successful on Christian pop radio stations and offers little variety over its 53-minute running time. The multi-colored lettering dominating a stark white background in the album artwork is a suitable representation of the music here it is middle-of-the-road pop with sleek production. This eponymous label debut released digitally in October to test the waters, but now Word is taking the full plunge with physical CD's. Now signed to Word Records, the band has cleared the slate and redefined themselves as a Christian pop band. Consequently, their vision and sound has changed as well. The lineup of the band has since significantly changed, with the only founding member being lead singer Chris Cleavland. Movie Reviews (Main) > Movie Reviews (Main)įounded in 2007 by Pillar drummer Lester Estelle II, bassist Michael "Kalel" Whittig, touring guitarist Joey Avalos, and a new face in Chris Cleavland, Stars Go Dim presented a brand of crossover pop/rock that was disappointing for a Pillar side project.Indie Reviews (Main) > Indie Reviews (Main). A more fun solution IMO is to let us craft a Great Fairy with one of each colored fairy, who will then guide you to an enchanted sword, which in turn should be guaranteed to spawn at least one per map. If you aren't fortunate enough to get one by happenstance, your best bet is to wait until you get the Drill Containment Unit and start combing the entire underground and hope one even generated at all, which it very well may not have.Ī simple solution is to let us cram a ton of fallen stars into a copper broadsword to craft it. With the current system, getting Zenith without trading or third party tools is a nightmare of luck. We've all had bad RNG where you don't find an Aglet easily for lightning boots, but a couple spelunkers or a moderate bit of fishing will get one in short order if you take the time to dedicate yourself to it. It's worse however to have a desirable item where there might be one somewhere on the entire map. This was a flaw with the previous shrines where most were fake, but they were relatively easy to find. Even if given the Legendary modifier via an inventory editor, it will not change how fast the sword slashes or how large the slashes are. It's not ideal to have to generate new worlds to find a specific item, a lot of people prefer to stick to one world. The Terragrim replaced the Arkhalis as a special weapon found in Enchanted Sword Shrines, as the Arkhalis is found in Arkhalis's developer set as of 1.4.0.1.The Terragrim appears in the Zenith's animation despite it not being used to craft the Zenith.Like the Arkhalis, the Terragrim's function and appearance are also based off of the Valmanway. The Terragrim's name is a reference to the Crissaegrim, also known as Valmanway, from the platform-adventure action role-playing game Symphony of the Night. It becomes less effective on Expert and Master mode worlds as the boss deals too much damage up close. It is able to hit up to three segments of the Eater at once. It is very effective at defeating the Eater of Worlds on normal mode as well, due to its high attack speed and damage. Its speed makes it very easy to defeat the Brain of Cthulhu's first and second phase, allowing the user to stand still and avoid taking damage. In Celebrationmk10 worlds, the Terragrim can be purchased from the Princess during a Blood Moon for 25.Both modifiers increase the average damage output by the same amount. The Terragrim's unique means of attack is unaffected by any size and speed modifiers. When the object is destroyed, it has a 2*1/50 (2%) chance to drop a Terragrim rather than an Enchanted Sword. It is obtainable from the unique background object found in an Enchanted Sword Shrine or very rarely in the Caverns layer. This damaging area has a rather wide spread, even attacking behind the player for a very short distance. Anything within this area takes constant damage at a rate far exceeding the weapon's stated use time. Instead of an overhead broadsword swing or a shortsword stab, the Terragrim autoswings and appears as a series of blurred slashes aimed in the direction of the cursor. The Terragrim is a rare pre-Hardmode melee weapon that appears to be a sword, but does not present an actual blade when used. Students who do very well in MATH 1106 may continue with MATH 1120, but some extra study will be necessary between semesters. It also uses more computations and algebraic manipulations by hand. It goes in depth on the fundamental concepts of calculus, such as limits, derivatives, and integrals. Reviewing the Basics of Calculus Limits are easiest to see on a graph are the points that a graph almost touches, for example, but never does Limits can be. MATH 1110 is the best choice for students who plan to take more calculus and is recommended for students who aren't sure about their plans but want to keep their options open. It introduces some fundamental concepts of calculus and provides a brief introduction to differential equations. Precalculus is a course that is designed to prepare students for Calculus, either in high school or college. MATH 1106 focuses on modeling using examples from the life sciences. Some topics are covered in less depth than in MATH 1110, while more advanced topics are introduced. MATH 1106 is an option for students whose major requires only one semester of calculus. These courses have different emphases, and each takes a different perspective on the material than AP calculus classes. Offering detailed solutions, multiple methods for solving problems, and clear explanations of concepts, this hands-on guide will improve student’s problem-solving skills and basic understanding of the topics covered in their pre-calculus and calculus courses. MATH 1106 - Modeling with Calculus for the Life Sciences (spring only).Basic calculus explains about the two different types of calculus called Differential Calculus and Integral Calculus. Some concepts, like continuity, exponents, are the foundation of advanced calculus. Both concepts are based on the idea of limits and functions. Algebra finds entire sets of numbers if you know a and b, you can. Basic Calculus is the study of differentiation and integration. Algebra finds patterns between numbers: a 2 + b 2 c 2 is a famous relationship, describing the sides of a right triangle. Arithmetic is about manipulating numbers (addition, multiplication, etc.). Students who need to take calculus and do not have (or wish to forfeit) AP credit, should start with Calculus I. Here’s my take: Calculus does to algebra what algebra did to arithmetic. |
